TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairperson of Al Madani Foundation in Banjarnegara which oversees Mutiara Hati Islamic Elementary School, Khaerul Mudakir, stated that the dismissal of Novi Citra Indayati, the vocalist of the band Sukatani, was due to a violation of the foundation's code of ethics, specifically regarding etiquette in socializing and dressing.
"In terms of social and dress etiquette," he said in a written message to Tempo on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Khaerul declined to elaborate on the specific ethical violations. He denied that Novi's involvement in the punk band was the cause of her dismissal. He emphasized that the dismissal was focused on Novi's violation of the code of ethics, which happened to coincide with her activities as a musician.
"Our focus is not on Novi's involvement in the Sukatani band but on the standard operating procedures and code of ethics that were violated," Khaerul said when contacted on Tuesday.
Novi is the vocalist of the electro-punk band hailing from Purbalingga, Central Java, known as Sukatani. She and her colleague, Muhammad Syifa Al Lufti, or Al as the guitarist, debuted in October 2022.
In their stage performances, the Sukatani band usually appears anonymously in front of the public. They often wear masks or balaclavas that cover their entire head, with holes for the mouth and eyes. They even have stage names to conceal their true identities, with Al as Alectroguy and Novi as Twister Angel.
Recently, the band has been in talks after announcing the withdrawal of their song titled "Bayar Bayar Bayar" which criticized the police from all music streaming platforms on Thursday, February 20. They also issued an apology to the National Polie Chief and the police institution.
Meanwhile, Khaerul confirmed that Novi's dismissal as a teacher was carried out on Thursday, February 6. Novi had been a teacher at the school since November 2, 2020.
At the same time, he mentioned that their decision to dismiss Novi as a teacher was not final. Khaerul stated that they would seek clarification from Novi Citra first. The results of this clarification will be the basis for the next decision-making process.
On the other hand, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that the polemic of Novi's dismissal by the school in Banjarnegara, Central Java, has been resolved. According to him, there are options for a solution to the case.
Mu'ti said several options for resolution between the two parties were discussed at the meeting. Which option she chooses is now in Novi's hands.
