TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) questioned six witnesses on Monday, June 2, 2025, in its investigation into alleged bribery and gratuities involving judges and case handling at the Central Jakarta District Court. The questioning was conducted by investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (JAM Pidsus).
One of the suspects is Wahyu Gunawan (WG), a junior court clerk at North Jakarta District Court. "The six witnesses were questioned in connection with the investigation into alleged bribery and/or gratuities in case handling at the Central Jakarta District Court involving suspect WG and others," said AGO spokesperson Harli Siregar in a written statement on Monday.
Among those questioned were ES, a junior civil clerk at the Central Jakarta District Court; SH, former Head of the Legal Bureau at the Ministry of Trade from 2018 to 2024; and Tian Bahtiar, former News Director at JAK TV.
Investigators also questioned LWP, a junior legislative drafter at the Ministry of Trade's Legal Bureau; DDP, WG's wife; and ISN, Tax Manager at PT JOI.
Previously, the AGO had also questioned Central Jakarta District Court judge HS and Jakarta High Court judge HM in connection with the same case. Both were first questioned in April.
In addition to the two judges, JAM Pidsus also questioned four other individuals: SMA, Litigation Manager at PT Wilmar; MBHA, Head of Corporate Legal at PT Wilmar; WK, staff at PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia; and DMBB, Head of Legal at PT Permata Hijau Palm Oleo.
The case stems from alleged bribery and gratuities involving judges in connection with a March 19, 2025 ruling that released three corporations: Wilmar Group, Musim Mas Group, and Perdata Hijau Group, under an ontslag van alle recht vervolging (release from all charges) ruling. Although the court found them to have committed the acts they were accused of, it ruled that the acts were not criminal offenses. Prosecutors have since filed a cassation appeal.
In this case, the Attorney General's Office has named eight suspects, including four judges who were part of the panel that handled the case. They are Djuyamto, Agam Syarif Baharuddin, Ali Muhtarom, and Arif Nuryanta, the deputy chief judge of the Central Jakarta District Court. The judges are suspected of taking bribes and colluding to secure acquittals for the three companies, allowing them to walk free from all charges.
The AGO also previously questioned Herri Swantoro, Chair of the Jakarta High Court (DK), regarding the administrative handling of an appellate ruling in civil case No. 220/PDT/2025/PT DKI, which favored the three corporations. That ruling became a consideration in the judges' decision to release the companies.
In that appeal, five Wilmar Group subsidiaries namely PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia, PT Multimas Nabati Asahan, PT Sinar Alam Permai, PT Multi Nabati Sulawesi, and PT Wilmar Bioenergi Indonesia, won a civil suit against the Ministry of Trade. The court ordered the government to pay Rp947.3 billion in damages, after the companies claimed they were harmed by government policies addressing the 2021 cooking oil shortage.
