TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia must accelerate its economic growth to approximately 6.7 percent to realize its ambition of becoming a developed nation by 2045.

He noted that such growth is essential for the country to escape the middle-income trap and bolster its national economic competitiveness.

"I believe that for Indonesia to achieve its aspiration of becoming a high-income, developed country by 2045, it needs to grow well beyond 5 percent. This means Indonesia must reach an economic growth rate of at least 6.7 percent. Therefore, the President is strongly encouraging us, despite the challenging global conditions we face," Airlangga remarked at a national seminar in Jakarta on Tuesday, as reported by Antara.

He explained that the current global landscape is defined by uncertainties that have reverberated across various sectors, including energy, food, and global supply chains.

According to the minister, the government is responding to these headwinds by reinforcing national economic resilience through several strategic policies, particularly in the energy and food sectors.

Airlangga added that Indonesia continues to maintain its economic stability by leaning on domestic strengths, specifically domestic consumption. "We must maintain consumer confidence because domestic consumption is the main pillar of the economy," he said.

He stated that domestic consumption accounts for approximately 54 percent of national economic demand, necessitating its preservation through adaptive and responsive policies.

Furthermore, the government is pushing for energy diversification to curb dependence on imports and ensure supply stability.

"The government continues to promote an increase in biodiesel blending up to B50 to reduce our reliance on energy imports," he noted.

In the food sector, the government is also working to maintain supply stability by controlling production costs, including the price of gas, a raw material for fertilizer.

Airlangga highlighted that Indonesia currently holds a surplus of urea fertilizer and exports roughly 1.5 million tons annually.

"For urea fertilizer, we have a surplus and even export around 1.5 million tons per year," he stated.

He added that several nations, including India, Australia, and the Philippines, have requested fertilizer supply support from Indonesia amid the volatile dynamics of the global supply chain.

According to the minister, this situation underscores Indonesia’s increasingly robust position in supporting food security both domestically and on the global stage.

Airlangga assessed that these various measures are part of the government's strategy to sustain stable economic growth in the face of global pressure.

He emphasized that the government will continue to advance flexible and responsive policies to ensure that its economic growth targets remain within reach.
