Apple's iOS 19 Likely to Facilitate eSIM Transfer to Android

1 day ago 24

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A report from Android Authority revealed that the upcoming iOS 19 will provide the convenience of transferring the Embedded Subscriber Identity Module (eSIM) from an iPhone to an Android. This will make it easier for users to expedite transfers between devices from different ecosystems without first having to contact the SIM operator.

This update was discovered during the testing of Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 released last week. "Its latest version contains strings suggesting Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 release will add support for wirelessly transferring an eSIM to Android phones," quoted from Android Authority on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

The report indicates that iOS 19 will add a new 'Transfer to Android' page accessible through the settings menu, general section, and the 'Transfer or Reset iPhone' option. On the new 'Transfer to Android' page, there will be an additional 'Other Options' button that can initiate the wireless transfer of eSIM from an iPhone to an Android.

" This manual transfer process will likely begin by scanning a QR code on the new Android phone, similar to how eSIMs are currently transferred between Android devices," writes Android Authority.

This QR code process requires session ID and password on the Android device, both of which may be generated by the iPhone. If both devices fail to connect, then it is likely that the iPhone is not running iOS 19 or later.

"After all, Google would need to know Apple is working on this functionality to build corresponding support into its SIM Manager app," it added.

According to the report, this feature is likely being implemented at the request of operators, aiming to reduce the need for users to contact them when switching devices. Development of this feature still lacks official explanation from Apple.

On the other hand, the iPhone is rumored to make a leap in the serial numbers of iOS, MacOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. According to a report from The Verge, Apple will instead insert the number 26-rather than 19, into all operating systems to be launched at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, 2025. "This means that the next major iOS update will be iOS 26, not iOS 19," writes The Verge.
