Cinema Roof in Argentina Collapses During Final Destination: Bloodlines Screening

1 day ago 16

TEMPO.CO, La Plata - The tense atmosphere inside the cinema turned into reality when the roof of one of the movie theaters at Cinema Ocho, La Plata, Argentina, collapsed in the middle of the horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines. The incident occurred on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 9:00 p.m. local time, while the film was being screened in theater room number 4.

According to Deadline's report, about 40 audience members were watching the sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise when ceiling pieces fell into the room. The movie tells the story of strange deaths due to unexpected accidents, and the moment in the cinema felt like part of the film's plot itself.

Cause of the Cinema Roof Collapse Unclear

Video footage from the scene showed a large hole in the ceiling and scattered debris among the seats. Panicked voices were heard as the audience hurried out. As of now, the management of Cinema Ocho has not provided an official statement regarding the cause of the roof collapse.

However, according to several local media reports, the severe weather and heavy rain that had been drenching La Plata in the past few days are suspected to be factors contributing to the building structure damage. "It was very loud," said Fiamma Villaverde, 29, who was watching with her 11-year-old daughter and a friend.

"At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were so absorbed in the screen. But then a piece of debris fell on me," she said. She admitted to being injured on her shoulder, back, knee, and ankle. Villaverde stated that she would file a legal complaint and had contacted her lawyer. She had been absent from work for several days due to serious bruising and X-ray results showing trauma from the impact.

The Latest Film Final Destination Achieves Best Opening

Final Destination: Bloodlines premiered on May 16, 2025 and immediately recorded the best opening in the franchise's history. The film produced by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, garnered a global revenue of US$102 million or around Rp 1.6 trillion in just the first week, with domestic and international earnings almost balanced.

The film tells the story of Iris, played by Brec Bassinger, a young woman who experiences disaster premonitions in a skyscraper restaurant. She saves many lives, but her actions trigger terrible consequences for her descendants.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lipovsky, the director, said that the film also set a new record. "There's the oldest person set on fire in front of the camera," he said, referring to Yvette Ferguson, a 71-year-old former actress and stand-in who came out of retirement to appear in the film's opening scene.
