Tickets for Chelsea’s Club World Cup quarter-final showdown with Palmeiras have been slashed to just $11.15 (£8.17) amid fears of a supporter no-show.

The dramatic drop in the asking price comes with this match in Philadelphia kicking off at 9pm local time and falling on Independence Day in the United States.

Ticketmaster is FIFA’s official sales portal for this tournament and tickets have now been halved from their original valuation, which was already low at $22.30 (£16.35).

FIFA have publicly praised the interest in Gianni Infantino’s tournament, announcing that two million supporters have attended matches in the US over the last weeks.

However, some of the empty stands have been a source of embarrassment, even if Real Madrid have had no such issues in selling out stadiums here due to their popularity.

Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira had used July 4 as a rallying cry to the locals in his press conference, inviting them to come support them against ‘the English’.
