TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team holds its first training session in Jakarta, at the Gelora Bung Karno Madya Stadium, on Monday evening, June 2, 2025. This comes after their Bali training camp in preparation for the upcoming match against China.
The Garuda squad bus was seen arriving at 6:05 p.m. local time, and the players immediately disembarked and headed to the field.
Upon arrival, Jay Idzes and his teammates were seen greeting PSSI Talent Scout Head Simon Tahamata, who was already on the field. They were also greeting former U-20 national team coach Indra Sjafri, who was standing beside Simon.
A total of 29 players participated in the first training session in Jakarta, with Kevin Diks joining the Jakarta camp. In Bali, 28 players attended the training that has run since Monday, May 26. With Diks joining the team, only one player is left to assemble, Maarten Paes.
Prior to this, Indonesian national team manager Sumardji stated on Sunday that all players were in good condition.
"Alhamdulillah, all players are in good shape, without any complaints of pain or anything else. The training camp in Bali was quite intense, and we see that the players gladly went through all of it," said the 53-year-old man.
"Which indicates that these friends, these players, are truly ready to face the match on June 5."
The Garuda squad will have two final matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Group C standings against China and Japan.
The home match against China will be played at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Thursday, June 5. Five days later, Indonesia will travel to Japan to face the Asian giant on Tuesday, June 10.
Currently, the Indonesian national team is in fourth place in the temporary standings of Group C for the World Cup qualifiers with nine points. They lead by three points from Bahrain and China, who are in fifth and sixth positions.
In fourth place, Indonesia is one point behind Saudi Arabia in third place, four points behind Australia in second place, and 11 points behind Japan in first place.
