TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that representatives from the Muslim organizations Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah will also be part of the Indonesian delegation visiting Iran this week.
"Representatives from the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and Muhammadiyah will also be participating in the visit, along with the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang at a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
She confirmed that the Muslim organizations' representatives include PBNU Chair KH Yahya Cholil Staquf and Muhammadiyah Chair Haedar Nashir.
According to Yvonne, the delegation is sent by President Prabowo Subianto to represent Indonesia in the visit to Iran, a friendly nation.
In addition to paying their final respects to the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Indonesian delegation, led by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, will also meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
She explained that the bilateral meeting between Sugiono and Araghchi aims to strengthen Indonesia-Iran relations and deepen cooperation in various priority areas between the two countries.
"Hopefully, the meeting will expedite coordination between the two countries in facing various regional and global challenges," added the ministry spokesperson.
Meanwhile, the meeting between Muzani and Ghalibaf aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary partnerships and people-to-people cooperation between Iran and Indonesia, said Yvonne.
The body of Ali Khamenei and those of his closest associates were brought to Tehran's Grand Mosque on July 3 and lay in state in the mosque's main hall over the weekend of July 4-5.
The funeral procession continued on Monday in the city of Qom, followed by separate processions in Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf in Iraq, before the final stage of the burial of the body in Mashhad on Thursday.
