In a stunning double-move, the Milwaukee Bucks are waiving point guard Damian Lillard in order to facilitate the signing of former Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner.

Lillard tore his Achilles tendon in the NBA Playoffs against the Pacers in what proved to be the final game for Milwaukee in the series - and his final game for the Bucks.

With a lengthy recovery period ahead of him, Lillard will now be set to rehab his injury unattached to any team.

The news of Lillard's $113million contract being waived allows the Bucks to free up necessary cap space to sign Myles Turner, who previously spent his entire career in Indiana, to a four-year, $107million deal.

Turner made it clear that he wanted to stay in Indiana - even after the team's Game 7 defeat in the NBA Finals to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, as ESPN reports, the team was averse to spending above the luxury tax.

While seen as a move that might keep Giannis Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee, NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that the 'Greek Freak' is 'not pleased' with the Bucks' decision to waive Lillard.

Lillard is not guaranteed to play at all next season due to his Achilles tear - the first among a trio of stars to tear this tendon in these playoffs.

The others were Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum and Pacers hero Tyrese Haliburton.

Waiving Lillard - who was acquired in a three-team deal involving Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Grayson Allen, Jusuf Nurkic, and Keon Johnson among others - is a colossal move, considering the guard's legacy.

The Oakland native - who turns 35 in just 14 days - is a nine-time NBA All-Star, a four-time All-NBA Second Team selection, a two-time All-NBA Third Team selection, and the 2013 NBA Rookie of the Year. He was also named to the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team.

However, this move may be the sign that Lillard's 13-season NBA career is at an end.

But by waiving him, the Bucks can continue to try and re-tool around Antetokounmpo to convince the former MVP to stay with the team amid rumors he'd be looking for a way out. ESPN reports that Turner and Antetokounmpo 'both valued the opportunity to partner together on the court'.

Turner is just one of three players in NBA history to have 700 3-pointers and 1,400 blocks (the others being Rasheed Wallace and Brook Lopez) and provides a chance for Giannis to form a 'Twin Towers'-esque offense in Milwaukee.

By adding Turner, the team addresses the loss of Lopez to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Other key moves the Bucks made this offseason include bringing back Bobby Portis, Gary Trent Jr., Taurean Prince, and Kevin Porter Jr.
