TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have taken statements from 31 witnesses to investigate the train crash at East Bekasi Station, West Java, Indonesia, on Monday, April 27, 2026.

"To date, investigators have questioned 31 people, including the complainant, taxi driver, barrier guard, witnesses near the scene, the victim, PT KAI operational officers, and other parties with direct knowledge of the incident," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

Budi explained that the accident case is currently under investigation and is being handled by the Sub-Directorate of Security and Security of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate.

"So far, investigators have inspected the crime scene, collected evidence, reviewed CCTV footage, coordinated with the victim's hospital, requested a post-mortem examination, and questioned witnesses and other relevant parties," he said.

The next step is for investigators to seek information from the Spatial Planning Agency, the Public Works Agency, Green Taxi, and the Directorate General of Railways to complete the investigation and obtain a complete and objective picture of the incident.

The fatal accident, which occurred on Monday evening, April 27, killed a total of 16 people and injured dozens more.

The incident was triggered by a Green SM taxi stalling at a level crossing due to an electrical system failure. The vehicle was then struck by a passing commuter line train (KRL).

As a result of the initial accident, a Cikarang-bound KRL train made an emergency stop at East Bekasi Station.

While at this stop, the KRL train was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train. It plowed through the rear women-only carriage and claiming over a dozen of lives.
