On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells revealed a special piece of equipment he'll wear in a Friday evening game.
Wells's catching equipment for a game against the New York Mets will feature logos and wordmarks for the New York City Fire Department.
The front of his chest protector will have the acronym 'FDNY' on it while the sides have the logo of the fire department.
Above the acronym are the words 'Never Forget' while the backside has Wells's number, 28, inside of a fireman's cross.
His equipment manufacturer, EvoShield, revealed the gear will be auctioned off after the game and proceeds will benefit the FDNY.
Wells and the Yankees will take on the Mets in the final edition of the 'Subway Series' for the 2026 season.
