TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 141 students from two schools in Tunjungan District, Blora Regency, Central Java, are suspected to have suffered from food poisoning after consuming state-sanctioned free meals on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The students came from Tunjungan public high school and Albanjari junior high school.

The students consumed the meals between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. local time. "The first symptoms emerged at 3:00 p.m. on September 7, 2026," said Blora Regent Arief Rahman on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

The food poisoning incidents were reported the following day at 10:00 a.m. in which three victims were hospitalized, with one at the Japah Public Health Center and two at Citra Mulia Clinic," he said.

Meanwhile, four victims received outpatient treatment at several health facilities. Another 135 people experienced symptoms of food poisoning, such as diarrhea, nausea, or dizziness, but were not taken to health facilities.

The free nutritious meal (MBG) menu at both schools was supplied by the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) Sukorejo 2 under the Tirto Mirah Asih Foundation Semarang. On the day of the incident, the menu comprised white rice, fried tempeh with coriander, basil chicken, boiled broccoli and sweet corn, soup, and apples.

It is suspected that one of the items on the menu were spoiled upon consumption, with initial suspicion on "the broccoli and corn."

This was not the first MBG-induced food poisoning case in the region. Earlier, 19 elementary school students in Ngawen District, Blora Regency suffered from food poisoning due to improperly stored milk on July 20, 2026.
