TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The cash prizes for both the champions and bottom-placed teams at the 2026 World Cup will be the largest in the history of the quadrennial tournament.
As reported on the FIFA website on Tuesday, a total of US$655 million (approximately Rp11.66 trillion) will be distributed to all participating teams, representing a 50 percent surge from the previous edition.
This figure does not include the US$72 million (approximately Rp1.3 trillion) specifically allocated for team preparations ahead of the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup champion is set to pocket US$50 million (approximately Rp890 billion), an amount that eclipses the prize money received by any previous victor.
Argentina, for context, took home US$42 million for conquering the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while France earned US$38 million for winning the 2018 edition, and Germany walked away with US$35 million for finishing first in 2014.
Meanwhile, the runner-up at the 2026 World Cup will receive US$33 million (approximately Rp587 billion), and the third-placed team will walk away with US$29 million.
For upfront preparations, FIFA is providing US$1.5 million to each participating team. Thus, each federation or association competing in the 2026 World Cup will receive a guaranteed minimum of US$10.5 million (Rp187 billion).
This baseline is guaranteed because FIFA is allocating nine million US dollars even to the teams ranked 33rd to 48th at the bottom of the tournament.
"The FIFA World Cup 2026 will also be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino as quoted by Antara.
The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico, running from June 11 to July 19.

Champion: US$50 million (approximately Rp890 billion)
Runner-up: US$33 million (Rp587 billion)
Third place: US$29 million (Rp516 billion)
Fourth place: US$27 million (Rp480 billion)
Fifth to eighth place: US$19 million (Rp338 billion)
Ninth to 16th place: US$15 million (Rp267 billion)
17th to 32nd place: US$11 million (Rp196 billion)
33rd to 48th place: US$9 million (Rp160.2 billion)
