Apple to Open Access to Local AI Models for Third-Party Apps

4 hours ago 12

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is reported to open access to its local artificial intelligence (AI) model for third-party application developers. As quoted from The Verge, this step will allow the integration of Apple Intelligence technology into other applications.

Apple is said to start by opening a small AI model that runs directly on the device, through the provision of a specific software development kit (SDK). This effort is similar to Google's approach of introducing the Gemini Nano AI API at Google I/O.

Developers will be able to integrate features such as writing assistants, including summaries and rewrites, and Apple's Image Playground image generator into their own applications.

However, access to Apple's cloud-based AI model will not be given in the early stages. This SDK is also not expected to have a significant impact on AI applications that already use their own models, such as ChatGPT, Grok, or products from Anthropic.

Apple is said to officially announce this initiative at the upcoming annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled to begin on June 9.

In addition to the AI-related announcement, Apple is also reportedly set to introduce a major operating system update called 'Solarium,' which will unify the look and user experience across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS to align with the Vision Pro system.
