Cabinet Secretary, GoTo CEO Discuss Prabowo Policy on Online Motorcycle Taxis

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya met with the CEO of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia, Hans Patuwo, at the Cabinet Secretariat Office in Jakarta. Their meeting took place on Friday night, May 22, 2026.

Teddy conveyed that during the meeting, he listened to and received various inputs from the GoTo CEO, whose company also provides online motorcycle taxi application services, Gojek. "According to his statement, currently (Gojek) has around 800,000 to 1 million active drivers throughout Indonesia," said Teddy in a written statement on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Since its first operation, Teddy stated that the number of drivers joining Gojek is estimated to have reached 3 million people. This number includes active drivers, part-time drivers, and those who are no longer active.

According to Teddy, Gojek has expressed its commitment to supporting President Prabowo Subianto's policy of increasing driver income. The initiative is to change the revenue sharing for drivers from 80 percent to 92 percent of each transaction.

Currently, Teddy said that the government and businesses continue to coordinate to find the best solutions that favor the drivers. "While also maintaining the sustainability of the business ecosystem to remain healthy and grow," he added.

He stated that Prabowo wants the improvement of online driver welfare to go hand in hand with fair and sustainable business continuity. "Where the application providers must still gain reasonable and increasing profits from the business," said Teddy.

Previously, President Prabowo announced the revenue-sharing rules between online motorcycle taxi drivers and application companies. In the new policy, online motorcycle taxi drivers will receive a larger share of the revenue.

Prabowo announced this step during his speech at the May Day commemoration at the National Monument in Jakarta on Friday, May 1, 2026. "The income distribution from (originally) 80 percent for drivers, now becomes at least 92 percent for drivers," said Prabowo in front of the workers.

The Gerindra Party chair announced that he had signed the policy through Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026 concerning the protection of online transportation workers. This regulation limits the amount that online transportation application companies can take from drivers to 8 percent. Previously, the average application providers cut up to 20 percent.
