TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of Palestinians killed in Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip has reached 73,016 as of Wednesday, June 17, according to Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Citing medical sources, WAFA reported that the majority of those killed were women and children. The number of people injured since October 7, 2023, has risen to 173,265.

In the past 24 hours alone, the bodies of two Palestinians and five injured individuals were brought to hospitals across Gaza, the report said.

The latest figures come amid continued humanitarian concerns despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025. According to the same sources, Israeli forces have killed 1,005 Palestinians and wounded 3,157 others since the ceasefire came into force.

During the same period, rescue and recovery teams also recovered and evacuated the bodies of 784 Palestinians from various locations across the enclave.

Thousands of people remain unaccounted for. At least 10,000 Palestinians are still listed as missing and are believed to have died beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings throughout Gaza, according to the report.

Israel's genocide in Gaza has also triggered widespread displacement across the territory. Nearly 2 million Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes, making it one of the largest population displacements in Gaza's modern history.

Many of those displaced have sought refuge in the southern city of Rafah near the Egyptian border, where overcrowded shelters and limited access to essential services have compounded the humanitarian crisis.

According to the sources cited by WAFA, the scale of displacement represents the largest Palestinian exodus since the 1948 Nakba, or "catastrophe," when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced during the creation of the State of Israel.

The figures released by Palestinian authorities could not be independently verified. The conflict has continued to draw international concern over civilian casualties, humanitarian access, and efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in the region.
