Florian Wirtz has reportedly completed the first part of his Liverpool medical ahead of his sensational British record £116million move to Anfield.

Wirtz flew out from Cologne before landing at Manchester Airport on Thursday afternoon and will become the Reds' second major signing of the summer after Jeremie Frimpong also arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Sky Germany, the first round of his medical checks proceeded without a hitch while the second half will take place on Friday.

The playmaker will then officially put pen to paper on an expected five-year contract.

The developments mean Liverpool are edging closer to pulling off the coup after beating Bayern Munich and Manchester City to the talented 22-year-old.

Wirtz is set to command a fee worth £116m, with a £100m base fee guaranteed.

He had arrived at Cologne Bonn Airport on Thursday morning before jetting out to the UK

The combined fee will see him become the most expensive British transfer in history, taking the honour from Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, a former Liverpool target.

Wirtz will now link up with former Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Frimpong.

Wirtz and Frimpong - who completed his own move to Liverpool earlier this month - shared a photo of themselves on a boat off the coast of Montenegro this week.

They are likely to be linking up on the pitch soon after enjoying plenty of success together in Germany.

The duo won a domestic double under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24, before adding the German Super Cup to their collection last season.

Wirtz will be by his side shortly, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

Leverkusen initially played hardball when Liverpool first made an approach for Wirtz.

Indeed, Liverpool had substantial bids of around £100m and £110m knocked back, but eventually reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side.

Supporters tracked his flight as he left Germany and prepared for his move to Liverpool

The Reds are also set to wrap up a deal to sign Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez.

The defender's father - and agent - Sebastijan has claimed that a move is a 'done deal', despite the Cherries driving a hard bargain at the negotiating table.

Bournemouth are believed to be holding out for £45m, but Sebastijan was adamant that save for a few minor details, his son will head to Anfield.

'It's only Liverpool for us and we're not going anywhere else and we won't talk to other clubs,' sadi Sebastijan. 'Everything is done between us (personal terms) we just need to sort out some details but it's basically a done deal.'
