TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Germany's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is planning a one-day visit to Indonesia on June 15 to bolster bilateral ties between both countries, according to German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste.
"We are committed to becoming a long-term partner with Indonesia, ready to mutually address future challenges," said Beste at a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Friday, June 12.
According to Beste, the key message behind the visit is clear: "Germany is a strong and reliable partner for Indonesia."
Steinmeier's visit to Jakarta, the ambassador added, is based on Germany's hope to boost partnership with strong developing countries, such as Indonesia.
Furthermore, as the largest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is an important partner for Germany in the region, Beste said.
Besides meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo, Steinmeier is slated to stop by the Istiqlal Mosque and the Jakarta Cathedral. He will be crossing the Tunnel of Friendship that connects the two places of worship.
Ambassador Beste revealed that the German President will also convene with the Indonesian intellectuals and researchers during his visit on Monday.
"During the meeting, they will discuss how Indonesia views current global changes geostrategically," said the German Ambassador.
He noted that Germany is Europe's largest economy, with a reliable legal system and ongoing investment in sustainable development and clean energy.
With this in mind, Steinmeier will be accompanied by a business delegation representing various German business sectors, such as logistics, mobility, and industrial equipment, as well as representatives from the cultural and science and technology sectors, during his visit to Indonesia next week.
Beste expressed hope that Stainmeier's visit could be reciprocated by Prabowo Subianto.
