TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate of Protection of Indonesian Citizens, has facilitated the arrival of six volunteers participating in the Global Sumud Land Convoy (GSLC).

As reported by ANTARA, the ministry stated on Friday that six of the seven Indonesian GSLC volunteers arrived in Jakarta on Friday at 5:35 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Meanwhile, one Indonesian volunteer remains in Istanbul for the next few days.

The statement mentioned that since the initial departure, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related Indonesian Representatives, including the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tripoli, have been coordinating closely with various parties to monitor and ensure their safety.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) is a mission to bring global humanitarian aid to Palestine via sea and land routes.

The GSLC volunteers took the Libya-Egypt-Gaza route and were followed by volunteers from around the world, including seven from Indonesia. During its journey, the GSLC failed to obtain permission to cross the Sirte region, on the western-eastern Libyan border.

From May 25 to 26, the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli successfully evacuated seven Indonesian volunteers. While in Tripoli, the volunteers received assistance and accommodations at the embassy while awaiting their return to Indonesia.

The volunteers expressed their appreciation for the assistance and support provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Representative Office.

The government reiterated that protecting Indonesian citizens is its top priority. It appreciates the humanitarian spirit of Indonesians who are willing to provide aid to conflict areas.

However, given the high security risks, Indonesians who wish to volunteer are urged to carefully consider safety and security aspects or channel their aid through accredited humanitarian organizations with established networks in the destination area.
