TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received a visit from Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Shri Sandeep Chakravorty at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

According to a statement from the Cabinet Secretariat, Ambassador Sandeep requested time to discuss matters relevant to the development of the Indonesia-India partnership. "A country with a population of more than 1.4 billion has around 150,000 diaspora living in Indonesia," the statement read.

Sandeep and Teddy also discussed the plan for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jakarta in the middle of this year.

"The visit is expected to serve as a significant milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Indonesia and India, which has been established for 76 years, as well as opening up closer cooperation opportunities across various sectors," the statement added.

Ambassador Sandeep's visit was shared through the cabinet secretary's Instagram account, @catatanseskab. Teddy appeared to be wearing a short-sleeved blue batik shirt while Sandeep wore a long-sleeved brown batik shirt. He was also accompanied by a staff member.

President Prabowo Subianto had previously visited India in January 2025, upon invitation as the chief guest at the 76th Republic Day of India celebrations.

During that visit, Prabowo also held a bilateral meeting with PM Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, New Delhi. In his press statement after the meeting, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of accelerating economic cooperation with India.

The President also instructed his staff to simplify bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, and prioritize bilateral interests. "If necessary, we will prioritize this relationship for the sake of a highly valued long-term strategic partnership," said Prabowo.

Furthermore, the two leaders agreed to strengthen partnerships in various sectors, including trade, investment, tourism, energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and infrastructure. Prabowo also invited Indian business actors to invest in infrastructure development in Indonesia.
