TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia condemns the Israeli military's placement of a propaganda banner on the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital (RS Indonesia) in northern Gaza, Palestine.
"Indonesia strongly condemns and protests the placement of the 'Rising Lion' banner by Israeli forces on the ruins of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) stated via platform X on Wednesday, as reported by Antara.
Indonesia considers the use of military symbols and propaganda on the ruins of the hospital, especially when linked to specific military operations, to be highly provocative and unjustifiable.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza is a civilian facility dedicated to providing health services to the Palestinian people.
The hospital should not be used for the installation of military propaganda.
"This action is an insult to the humanitarian facility built out of the solidarity of the Indonesian people to help the Palestinian people," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Indonesia emphasized that hospitals and all medical facilities must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law.
Indonesia also urged Israel to cease actions that violate the principle of protecting civilian infrastructure and to ensure accountability for attacks on health facilities in the Gaza Strip.
The Indonesian Hospital was previously affected by Israeli military attacks from October 2023 until the ceasefire in October 2025.
The hospital's director, Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, was reportedly killed in an Israeli attack on his residence in western Gaza in July 2025.
According to media reports, Israeli forces at the scene displayed a banner reading "Rising Lion" on the roof of the building. "Rising Lion" was also used as the name of Israel's military operation against Iran in June 2025.
