TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed that it will not raise the highest retail price of subsidized rice (SPHP) amid the rupiah depreciation run.
"Indeed, the dollar exchange rate value change could affect various things, including the food sector," said the Director of SPHP at Bapanas, Maino Dwi Hartono, in a written statement on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Despite the unchanged rice prices, Maino ensures that the product quality is maintained, in accordance with the standard for medium-quality rice.
Bapanas has set the price of SPHP rice for consumers in various regions, including Java, Lampung, South Sumatra, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi at Rp12,500 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, for Sumatra, excluding Lampung and South Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara, and Kalimantan, it is set at Rp13,100 per kilogram. While Maluku and Papua are set at Rp13,500 per kilogram.
This year's subsidized rice program incurs a budget of Rp4.97 trillion. Bapanas states that the budget is equivalent to the sale subsidy of approximately 828 thousand tons of rice for the public.
Bapanas has also set the latest provisions for the maximum amount of SPHP rice that consumers can purchase. The agency allows the public to buy a maximum of five 5-kilogram packages, up from the previous two-package limit, in consideration of citizens' rice demand.
Meanwhile, for 2-kilogram rice packages, Bapanas limits the maximum purchase to two packages. Bapanas emphasizes that SPHP rice must not be resold as it is part of the government subsidy program.
