TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian rupiah strengthened by 21 points, or 0.12 percent, to Rp17,696 per US dollar in Monday morning trading, compared to the previous close of Rp17,717 per US dollar.
According to Doo Financial Futures currency analyst Lukman Leong, the rupiah gained amid growing hopes for peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.
“The rupiah is expected to strengthen against the US dollar due to hopes for peace in the Middle East and falling global crude oil prices following statements by US President Donald Trump that negotiations with Iran are progressing constructively,” Lukman said in Jakarta on Monday, May 25, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Citing Anadolu Agency, Trump confirmed that an agreement to end the conflict with Iran had “largely been negotiated” and would soon be finalized. He said the draft agreement had been discussed through what he described as “very good” communication with several regional leaders.
Washington and Tehran are continuing negotiations over a proposed agreement and related responses through mediation by Pakistan.

Domestic sentiment in Indonesia has also begun to improve since last Friday, with the equity market closing in positive territory.
“However, pressure on the rupiah remains after current account data showed a large deficit,” Lukman said.
Based on those factors, Lukman projected the rupiah to move within the range of Rp17,600 to Rp17,750 per US dollar.
