TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Alliance of Women in Indonesia will hold a street demonstration tomorrow, Thursday, June 18, 2026. A representative of the alliance, Fanda Puspitasari, stated that this symbolic action is carried out in response to the current unfavorable situation and conditions in Indonesia.
The alliance will bring three demands to be voiced during the demonstration. Firstly, they demand a reduction in the prices of staple goods, including food, which have soared in the market due to the increase in fuel prices.
"The rise in fuel prices has significant impacts on the economy, especially for the lower and middle class," said Fanda via WhatsApp on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Secondly, they demand a temporary halt to the free nutritious meal program (MBG) to evaluate the overall management of President Prabowo Subianto's flagship project.
According to Fanda, the evaluation of MBG should not be limited to replacing the leadership of the National Nutrition Agency, but also requires a comprehensive audit and improvement.
"Therefore, we demand the suspension of MBG for a comprehensive evaluation," said the activist from the Sarinah Institute.
Thirdly, the alliance demands the Prabowo Subianto administration to fulfill its promise of creating job opportunities. She emphasized that the reality in the field shows that there are still many Indonesians without jobs, and even those who are employed are vulnerable to layoffs.
Based on data from the Ministry of Manpower for January-May 2026, 23,470 workers have been laid off. Although this number is lower than the previous year, which reached 46,015 people.
"So, for the symbolic action tomorrow, we have three crucial demands to voice: reduce the prices of staple goods, suspend MBG, and realize the creation of job opportunities," Fanda stated.
The symbolic action of the Alliance of Women in Indonesia will be held in the Dukuh Atas area, Central Jakarta. During the demonstration, participants will carry various kitchen utensils and wear light pink clothing.
