TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jordan's King Abdullah II held a phone call with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on Monday, June 23, 2025, following Iran’s missile attack on the U.S.-operated Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar.
During the call, King Abdullah II expressed Jordan’s support for Qatar in maintaining its security, stability, and sovereignty amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
King Abdullah II condemned any action that threatens the safety of Qatar and its citizens. He also reaffirmed the close historical ties and sense of brotherhood shared between the two nations.
According to an official statement from the Jordanian government cited by Roya News, King Abdullah emphasized Jordan’s firm stance in supporting Qatar against external threats or any attempt to undermine regional stability.
He also underscored the importance of cooperation among Arab states to preserve peace and security across the Gulf region.
The Jordanian government issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s strike on Qatar, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatari sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement quoted by the Jordan News Agency Petra, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed full solidarity with Qatar in the face of any threat to its safety and stability.
The statement also reiterated Jordan’s support for any actions taken by Qatar to defend its sovereignty and protect its population.
Sufyan Qudah, spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stressed the urgent need to de-escalate the situation.
He warned of the grave consequences the conflict could have for both regional and global peace and security if it continues or spreads further. Qudah called for an end to all military operations and urged both Iran and Israel to return to the negotiation table.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s missile strike. In an official statement quoted by Petra, Qatar described the attack as a blatant breach of its sovereignty and airspace, and a clear violation of international law.
Qatar asserted its right to respond directly and proportionally in accordance with international law. The country confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the Iranian missile and neutralized the attack.
Qatar also warned that continued military escalation poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The government called for an immediate halt to military actions and emphasized the need to resume genuine dialogue and negotiations as the only path to lasting peace.
The Iranian missile attack on the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar occurred amid the ongoing Iran-Israel war, which began after Israel struck several Iranian buildings and military sites on June 13, 2025. The United States later entered the conflict by bombing three of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
