TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators have named Ahmad Sodiq, Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), a suspect in a corruption case involving independent student admissions. Sodiq was previously apprehended in a series of sting operations and brought to KPK headquarters for further interrogation.
Acting Director of Investigation at the KPK Achmad Taufik Husein stated that authorities uncovered criminal conduct and officially upgraded the case to a full investigation. "Based on sufficient evidence, the KPK has named six individuals as suspects, including ASO, the Rector of Unsoed," he said during a press conference at the KPK building in South Jakarta on Friday night, August 21, 2026.
Six Suspects Named and Cash Seized
The six suspects are Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq, Vice Rector III for Student Affairs Norman Arie Prayoga, Head of Unsoed's Academic Division Eko Sumanto, and three private sector individuals identified as DMW, AW, and MYN (also known as Nono).
During the sting operation, KPK investigators seized a total of Rp764 million in physical cash and bank balances linked to the bribery scheme. "This includes approximately Rp 665 million in cash and Rp 99 million in account balances," Taufik revealed during the press briefing.
The six suspects are accused of violating Article 12 letter e or Article 12 B of Law No. 31/1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law No. 20/2001, in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of Law No. 1/2023 on the Criminal Code. The KPK has remanded all six suspects for 20 days, spanning August 21 to September 9, 2026, at the Red and White KPK Branch State Detention Center.
Sting Operations in Jakarta and Purwokerto
Previously, KPK investigators apprehended 14 individuals across Jakarta and Purwokerto during the operation. KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that 12 individuals were detained in Purwokerto and two others in Jakarta. Of the 12 individuals apprehended in Purwokerto, seven were subsequently transferred to Jakarta for further questioning.
Consequently, nine individuals underwent intensive interrogation at the KPK's Red and White Building in Jakarta. "Among the nine people, there are the Rector, two Vice Rectors, and other parties," Budi said.
In addition to the Rector, the KPK also detained two Unsoed Vice Rectors during the operation: Vice Rector II for General and Financial Affairs Kuat Puji Prayitno and Vice Rector III for Student Affairs Norman Arie Prayogo.
Unsoed Awaits Official Legal Clarity
Meanwhile, Jenderal Soedirman University in Purwokerto, Central Java, broke its silence after several of its leadership officials were caught in the KPK sting. Unsoed spokesperson Edi Santoso admitted that university administration remains uncertain regarding the specific case being handled by the KPK or the legal status of those being examined.
"The KPK is currently conducting an examination process, but we ourselves are not sure about the nature of the case and the legal status of those taken there," Edi was quoted as saying by Antara on Friday.
Edi stated that for the time being, the university has refrained from taking further action as it awaits an official determination or statement from the KPK regarding the legal proceedings. According to him, the university will convey its official position after receiving formal clarification.
"We are waiting for clarity, so for now, there is no definitive stance. Of course, we will respect all legal processes, but as to what exactly, let's wait for the KPK," Edi said.
