There was an encouraging start to the weekend for home hero Lewis Hamilton, who posted the fastest time in first practice ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion has endured an inauspicious start to life at Ferrari since his high-profile departure from Mercedes at the end of last season.
The 40-year-old currently sits sixth in the drivers standings, 28 points behind team-mate Charles Leclerc, who has outperformed him at all but one race - the Emilia Romana Grand Prix - in 2025.
In fact, Hamilton, who has claimed the chequered flag at Silverstone a record-breaking nine times, is currently on 13-race run without recording a podium, which represents the worst such sequence of his career.
But there was a welcome boost for Hamilton on his return to the site of his last race victory one year ago.
Hamilton's car found its groove in the first period of running for the weekend and the Brit posted a time of 1:26.892, ahead of McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who finished second and third-fastest respectively.

Fellow Brit George Russell was one spot further back in fourth for Mercedes.
It was a difficult start to the weekend, though, for reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
He could only post the 10th-quickest time and complained of handling issues with his Red Bull car. 'Unbelievable,' bemoaned the Dutchman over the radio to his team.
Verstappen is hoping to bounce back from failing to score points at last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix after Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli crashed into him on the opening lap in Spielberg.
