Luhut to Prabowo on Indonesia's Economic Simulation: 'Still Very Stable'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Chair of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan reported the results of the economic simulation for the next three months to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto yesterday.

"Based on the comprehensive simulation we have conducted, our economic conditions in the next three months are still very safe and secure. Our economic fundamentals are strong," said Luhut in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, as quoted from Antara.

However, Luhut stated that the government still formulated a number of anticipatory policy scenarios as a mitigative measure in case geopolitical tensions persist longer than expected.

One of the main focuses of the anticipatory measures is to mitigate the potential surge in energy prices, especially concerning the widening gap between global crude oil prices and the selling prices of fuel in the country.

DEN, Luhut said, also emphasized the importance of maintaining the supply chain of strategic commodities, such as sulfur, which is crucial for the sustainability of the nickel industry downstreaming program and the development of the national electric vehicle (EV) battery ecosystem to not be disrupted by global dynamics.

As for fiscal resilience, the government guaranteed that the State Budget (APBN) will remain in a healthy and controlled corridor. Fiscal deficit will be closely maintained below 3 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), through measured expenditure efficiency and optimization of revenue from leading export commodity sectors, such as coal and palm oil.

Luhut assured the public and business community not to worry because the State Budget (Anggaran Pendapatan dan Belanja Negara/APBN) is still very well-controlled. "Deficit will be kept below 3 percent through appropriate spending efficiency, and maximizing the momentum of export commodity prices to strengthen state revenue," he said.

Meanwhile, to maintain growth momentum in the real sector, the government will expedite deregulation as a non-fiscal stimulus.

Luhut emphasized that resolving structural barriers in the field is a priority to make the licensing process simpler, more efficient, and provide legal certainty for business players amid the dynamic global situation. The government also views this geopolitical situation not only as a challenge, but also as a strategic opportunity.

Furthermore, Luhut once again pushed for the acceleration of digital government transformation (GovTech) and the strengthening of the Indonesia Financial Center development initiative to capture the potential shift in global capital flow. "We are not only talking about survival, but also about how to take advantage of this situation. Accelerating GovTech and the development of the Indonesia Financial Center are our strategic steps to capitalize on the shift in global capital flow," he said.

With solid collaboration between the government and the business world, Luhut is optimistic that this momentum can be a catalyst for national progress.
