TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Sumatra Main Distribution Unit (UID) of PLN has confirmed that all substations in the province are lit up following the electricity system disruption that caused a power outage on Friday night, May 22, 2026.
"As of 05.00 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), 60 percent of the system has been restored, and we are still striving to ensure a full recovery of 100 percent," said General Manager of PLN West Sumatra UID, Ajrun Karim, when confirmed in Padang City on Saturday, May 23, 2026, as reported by Antara.
Although 21 substations have been successfully energized, 175 of the 394 feeders remain inactive.
These feeders are spread across Padang City, Padang Pariaman Regency, Tanah Datar Regency, Pasaman Regency, West Pasaman Regency, Limapuluh Kota Regency, Payakumbuh City, Padang Panjang City, Solok, South Solok, Sijunjung Regency, and Dharmasraya Regency.
Local PLN ensures the swift restoration of the electricity system to return to normal as soon as possible.
The company has confirmed that West Sumatra is safe, particularly with regard to low- and medium-voltage networks. However, field officers are still working hard to normalize several feeders.
"All substations are already lit up, and it's now just the process of loading at each feeder point," he said.
The company has not yet provided further details regarding the main cause of the power outage in West Sumatra on Friday night at around 6:44 PM WIB.
However, the temporary suspicion is that the disruption of the electricity system originated from Jambi Province.
In addition to West Sumatra, disruptions in the electricity system also occurred in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Riau.
Since the disruption occurred, PLN has immediately deployed technical teams to inspect the entire electricity system and network and trace the cause of the disruption.
Lastly, PLN urges the public to remain calm. Information on the progress of addressing the disruption will be periodically provided through the PLN Mobile application and the PLN 123 contact center.
Meanwhile, Asna, a resident of Bukittinggi City, said the electricity came back on between 01.00 and 03.00 WIB. She hopes that the situation returns to normal completely.
"At 01.00 in the morning, I checked, and the electricity was still out, but at 03.00 WIB, the electricity was back on," she said.
