PPATK Proposes Budget Boost to Combat Money Laundering and Online Gambling

3 hours ago 12

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) has proposed an increase in the 2027 budget. The Head of PPATK, Ivan Yustiavandana, stated that the 2027 budget is proposed to increase by Rp516.4 billion.

He explained that the additional budget is intended to bolster efforts to prevent and eradicate money laundering, terrorism financing, and online gambling. "Respected leaders and members of the DPR (House of Representatives) Commission III, we hope that this can be fulfilled at the budget ceiling determination stage in July 2026," said Ivan during a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Ivan explained that Rp106.1 billion of the total proposed budget increase will be used for internal management, operational office expenses, and employee expenditures. Furthermore, Rp410.3 billion will be allocated for inspection and implementation activities, management of reporting data and compliance, domestic and global cooperation, formulation of strategies and APUPPT-PPSPM policies, IT management, legal regulation management, and education and training management.

Ivan added that based on the indicative ceiling for 2027, PPATK's budget is set at Rp253.3 billion. This amount is also stipulated in a joint letter from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas dated May 7, 2026.

He mentioned that most of the budget is allocated to the institution's operational needs, including office operations, employee expenses, and IT maintenance.

Breakdown of the allocation includes Rp660 million for analysis and examination of the narcotics sector, Rp252.7 billion for office operations, Rp19.3 billion for IT maintenance, Rp206 billion for salaries and allowances, and Rp26.7 billion for office maintenance and operations.

However, PPATK also has several priority programs that require additional budget support, especially to optimize financial intelligence products to support state revenue and combat various criminal activities. "To support the implementation of these programs, PPATK has proposed an additional budget of Rp516.4 billion for 2027," said Ivan.

At the same event, DPR Commission III member Martin Daniel Tumbeleka said that the Gerindra Party agrees with the proposal to increase the PPATK's budget.

He believes that the increase in PPATK's budget is relevant because PPATK's work goes beyond merely proving criminal acts. "PPATK must be able to trace, freeze, confiscate, and most importantly, recover criminal assets. This work will not be optimal if the budget is too small," said Martin.
