TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) club has won the Champions League after defeating Arsenal through a 4-3 penalty shootout in the final held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Saturday night, May 30, 2026. Both teams played a 1-1 draw until the end of normal time and extra time.
Arsenal initially took the lead through Kai Havertz in the sixth minute. The German forward pierced into the penalty box before taking a shot that the PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov failed to anticipate. The lead remained until halftime.
PSG managed to equalize in the second half through Ousmane Dembele's penalty in the 65th minute. The goal stemmed from a foul by Cristhian Mosquera in the penalty box. Referee Daniel Siebert reviewed the incident through VAR before confirming the penalty decision. Dembele, who stepped up as the executor, successfully deceived David Raya to change the score to 1-1.
PSG dominated throughout the match. The team under the guidance of Luis Enrique controlled 75 percent of ball possession and unleashed 18 shots, compared to Arsenal's four. Despite dominating the game, PSG failed to score a winning goal in normal time.
Their best chance came in the 77th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's shot hit the goalpost. Vitinha also nearly brought PSG ahead in the 89th minute, but his volleys narrowly missed above the crossbar.
Extra time was tightly contested. Both teams played more cautiously. Arsenal and PSG both created several chances, but it was not enough to break the deadlock. The 1-1 score persisted until 120 minutes, so the winner had to be determined through a penalty shootout.
In the penalty shootout, Viktor Gyokeres, Declan Rice, and Gabriel Martinelli successfully executed their tasks for Arsenal. However, Gabriel Magalhaes and Eberechi Eze failed as their shots soared above the bar.
On the PSG side, Goncalo Ramos, Desire Doue, Achraf Hakimi, and Lucas Beraldo successfully scored from the penalty spot. Only Nuno Mendes failed to fulfill his duty. Lucas Beraldo's success as the final kicker ensured PSG's 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout, also leading the French club to claim the Champions League trophy for the second consecutive season.
