TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that QRIS is evidence that Indonesia is a recognized producer of digital technology worldwide, not just a consumer.
"QRIS is popular not only domestically but also in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. It will soon be available in Japan and South Korea," said Gibran in an official video uploaded by the Vice President's Secretariat in Jakarta on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
According to Gibran, QRIS, a digital transaction tool developed by Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Payment Systems Association (ASPI), has shown that Indonesia can maintain its sovereignty by strengthening its national financial industry.
He also quoted President Prabowo Subianto's statement that the financial industry plays a key role in maintaining a nation's sovereignty.
"As President Prabowo emphasized, the financial industry is at the forefront of maintaining a nation's sovereignty, and QRIS is part of our financial industry ecosystem," he said.
The Vice President stated that QRIS has accelerated financial inclusion in Indonesia, especially for MSMEs, as a practical payment solution without relying on cash, cards, or EDC machines.
"QRIS benefits not only customers, but also street vendors, home businesses, and MSMEs," he said.
The Vice President also revealed that 93 percent of QRIS user merchants currently come from the MSME sector, as evidence of the widespread digital adoption among small business players.
Gibran also emphasized supporting this local technology to create an inclusive and sovereign economy.
