TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns that artificial intelligence is advancing too quickly, calling criticism over the technology a “SICK conspiracy.”
According to DW, Trump’s remarks came after technology leaders, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, called for greater government oversight of artificial intelligence.
Concerns over AI safety have grown in recent months following incidents involving AI agents and warnings about the risks of increasingly autonomous systems.
What Trump Said About AI Guardrails
Trump argued that AI does not need additional controls beyond a strong and smart president.
“The only control or ‘guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account, as cited by DW.
Trump also said his administration had already prevented Anthropic from “doing bad, or potentially bad” things with its technology.
The comments followed tensions between the Trump administration and Anthropic over the use of its AI models. The Pentagon had previously sought to designate Anthropic’s models as a security risk and considered a temporary ban on one of its more advanced models.
“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China,” Trump wrote.
Amodei warned over the weekend about the risks of uncontrolled AI development, saying AI agents could potentially take over large parts of the internet within six to 12 months. Microsoft has also published a code of conduct aimed at maintaining human control over AI systems.
The concerns contributed to declines in AI-related stocks worldwide, including Nvidia, whose shares fell 3.5%, and Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which fell 1.7%.
