TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said President Prabowo Subianto had instructed him to maintain the health and credibility of Indonesia's state finances, particularly the state budget, known as the APBN.
Suahasil made the statement after being sworn in at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026.
"The President's specific instruction is to maintain state finances. That means maintaining their health and credibility," Suahasil said.
He said the APBN, as part of the country's state finances, must remain sound to ensure the government can fund and implement its priority programs.
In addition to maintaining a healthy budget, Suahasil emphasized the importance of preserving the APBN's credibility so that the state budget remains trusted.
"The APBN, as part of state finances, must be able to support the government's priority programs. Therefore, the APBN must be healthy. In addition to being healthy, it must also be credible. The APBN must be trusted," he said.
Suahasil said he would continue efforts already undertaken by the Finance Ministry to maintain the country's state finances.
He said the ministry had worked to ensure that the APBN could support economic growth while maintaining economic stability.
"To that end, we will work with the Finance Ministry, which has been working very hard. We will continue to maintain state finances through an APBN that can support growth and truly stabilize Indonesia's economy," he said.
Suahasil also thanked Prabowo and the Indonesian government for entrusting him with the position of finance minister.
He described the appointment as a responsibility that he must carry out as a mandate.
"This is a form of trust from the President and from the Republic of Indonesia, and I thank them for that trust. I hope I can carry out the mandate given by the President," Suahasil said.
