TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tunisian Football Federation appointed Herve Renard to replace Sabri Lamouchi as head coach after a 5-1 loss against Sweden in their opening Group F match of the 2026 World Cup.
"The Tunisian Football Federation announces the appointment of Herve Renard as national team coach until the end of the 2026 World Cup," the Tunisian Football Federation said on its social media page, observed in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Lamouchi was dismissed from his post after Tunisia suffered a heavy defeat against Sweden at the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.
The result was a major blow that not only affected Tunisia's standings but also the team's overall confidence.
Following the poor result in the opening match, the federation moved quickly to replace Lamouchi with Herve Renard, who took office on Tuesday, June 16, immediately leading the team's preparations, including securing facilities and financial support on par with the previous coach.
The 57-year-old French coach has a long track record at the international level, including managing Saudi Arabia in the previous World Cup.
He is known as a coach who emphasizes tactical discipline, strong defensive organization, and a competitive mentality on the pitch.
Renard's first challenge with Tunisia is the match against Japan on June 20 at the BBVA Stadium.
This match is crucial as it will determine Tunisia's chances of remaining in Group F.
Tunisia is in Group F with Sweden, Japan, and the Netherlands. The African team is bottom of the standings after losing their opening match.
