TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis players Gunawan Trismuwantara and Ethan David Zapp advanced to the qualifying finals of the fourth leg of the 2026 ITF M15 Amman Mineral Men's World Tennis Championship at the Bali Beach Country Club in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Gunawan secured his spot in the qualifying final after defeating Australian player Sebastian Huggins 6-3, 6-0 in 56 minutes.
"Focusing on each game was the key factor in my victory. However, this is far from enough, as the next match will be tougher," Gunawan said in a written statement received in Jakarta.
The 23-year-old played aggressively, particularly in the second set, denying Huggins the chance to win a single game.
In the qualifying final, Gunawan will face Haruto Ishikawa, who previously defeated Ashwin Ryan Sharma in a three-set match, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ethan David Zapp advanced after winning an all-Indonesian duel against Dewana Gustaman, 6-2, 6-3.
Ethan will next face the fourth seed from Japan, Ren Nakamura, for a spot in the main draw.
The victories for Gunawan and Ethan mark a positive outcome for Indonesia, which fielded six representatives in the qualifying round.
Four other Indonesian players—Renaldi Aquila Salim, M. Ragil Putra, Kareem Abdul Hakim, and Raphael Rio Suryana—were eliminated in the first round.
Kareem lost to Azuma Visaya 1-6, 4-6, while Renaldi fell to Stefan Menichella 1-6, 0-6. Raphael was defeated by Matthew Shearer 3-6, 4-6, and Ragil lost to Thomas Patton 1-6, 1-6.
After previously utilizing the Universal Tennis Rating Pro Tennis Tour (UTR PTT) format, this tournament series has returned to ITF M15 status. The fourth leg of the 2026 ITF M15 Amman Mineral Men's World Tennis Championship takes place from August 31 to September 6.
The qualifying round, which began on Sunday, features 32 players from 12 countries competing for eight spots in the main draw.
