TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Foreign Minister Sugiono will lead the Indonesian delegation on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the country's foreign affairs ministry confirmed.
"Foreign Minister Sugiono will attend a series of high-level meetings at the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly in New York next week," said Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang at a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
President Prabowo, meanwhile, will not be attending the UN General Assembly agenda in person this year because he wants to focus on domestic affairs.
"It was the president's directive for the Indonesian Foreign Minister to attend the UN General Assembly next month, as the president will be focusing on domestic affairs," Mewengkang said.
According to Mewengkang, Minister Sugiono will attend at least 22 meetings during the UNGA week this year, including the General Debate Session and mandatory meetings, as well as high-level meetings and bilateral meetings.
Additionally, Sugiono will attend several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the MIKTA multilateral forum, she added.
At this year's UN General Assembly, Indonesia will bring the message of strengthening national and regional resilience to achieve global resilience.
Indonesia will continue to advocate for world peace, including the Palestinian independence, and reiterate its commitment to acting as a bridge between the world and the interests of developing countries and national development.
"Indonesia's participation in this series of meetings will convey messages about strengthening multilateralism and inclusivity as well," she said.
The ministry spokesperson revealed that on the same occasion, Indonesia will also intensify its national campaign for its candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2029-2030 term.
This campaign will be carried out, among other things, through a diplomatic reception on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly kicked off in New York on September 8. Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman was elected President of the UN General Assembly for the new session, succeeding former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
The theme of this session is "Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all." The General Debate Session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled for September 22-26, resuming on September 28.
