TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - You have been waiting at the airport baggage claim for more than 30 minutes but your luggage has not shown up. You are beginning to worry. What if the luggage is lost or left behind at the departing airport? What should passengers do?

Losing or leaving behind your luggage behind while traveling can be stressful. But do not worry, there are several steps that passengers can take when this happens.

1. Double-Check

Don't panic, sometimes luggage is delayed due to obstacles. Check other conveyor belts nearby, maybe the staff misplaced them and the luggage is in the wrong place.

2. Report

If the luggage has not shown up yet after double-checking, report it to the airline's baggage service staff. Usually, the counter is located around the baggage claim area. Provide the baggage claim number found on your boarding pass. Also describe the missing luggage, size, color, and distinctive features. It's even better if a photo is included.

3. File Lost Luggage Claim

Passengers can also file a claim for lost luggage and fill out the form. Include details such as contact number and address at the destination. This will help staff return the luggage if it is found. Do not forget to ask for a copy of the report.

4. Check Compensation

Airlines generally provide compensation for lost or delayed luggage. Passengers can inquire about the airline's policy and what can be obtained. If you have to buy toiletries, spare clothes, and so on, keep the receipts because some airlines may require them for reimbursement.

5. Track the Luggage Location

Many airlines provide a reference number to track the location of the luggage. Passengers can request updates at any time.

6. Check Travel Insurance

If you have travel insurance, you can contact the provider. Many insurances already include coverage for lost or delayed luggage. Check the terms and conditions and follow the steps.

7. If Confirmed Lost

If the luggage remains missing for more than 21 days, the airline will confirm it as lost. Passengers can file for reimbursement for the lost luggage. Include evidence and calculate the value of the items inside.
