TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Staff of the Air Force and President Commissioner of state-owned aircraft maker PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI), Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono, announced that PT DI will prepare 20 CN235 aircraft for each branch of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
This initiative aligns with a request made by Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin during a recent meeting. "Pak Minister wants to provide 20 CN235 aircraft to each of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in accordance with PT DI's capabilities," Tonny stated in PT DI's official press release on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
Tonny explained that the procurement of 20 CN235 aircraft for each military branch is part of Defense Minister Sjafrie's broader plan to develop Indonesia's future defense concept.
However, he did not provide further details regarding the specifics of this future defense concept.
He also stopped short of disclosing detailed information about when the aircraft manufacturing process will begin or the projected completion timeline.
Concurrently, PT DI's Corporate Communication Manager & Institutional Relations, Adi Prastowo, clarified that there is currently no effective contract in place for the production of these 20 CN235 aircraft per military branch.
"This is still a plan at the top level," Adi said in a brief message to Antara.
Nevertheless, Adi assured that the company remains fully prepared to support Indonesia's defense capabilities through the main weapon system (alutsista) products or fleet manufactured by PT DI.
