TEMPO.CO, JakartaA high-level business delegation from Australia began a four-day working visit in Jakarta on Monday, February 10, 2025, with the aim of boosting investment in Indonesia. The mission is led by Australia's Business Champion for Indonesia, Jennifer Westacott AO, who is also the Chancellor of Western Sydney University.

The delegation consists of 39 senior representatives from 27 leading companies and investment firms in Australia, as well as asset managers, infrastructure experts, and leading business groups with a global reputation. They represent a range of sectors including healthcare, infrastructure, logistics, energy, mining, and resources.

"This investment mission comes at the right time for Australia and Indonesia to enhance our economic engagement, as we celebrated just last year 75 years of diplomatic relations, demonstrating the enduring nature of the relationship," said Austrade CEO Dan Boyer.

According to Boyer, Indonesia and Australia both present opportunities for trade and investment and support prosperity and economic resilience. The increase in two-way trade and investment with countries in the Southeast Asia region could bring “incredible opportunity.”

During their stay in Jakarta, the delegates will participate in various briefings with senior representatives of the Indonesian government and ministries, bespoke business matching meetings, and several panel discussions on business sectors. The delegates will also take part in the Mandiri Investment Forum's Macro Day.

This is the largest investment mission visiting the region since the formation of the Southeast Asia Investment Deal Teams, a recommendation from the Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 report announced by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Jakarta in 2023.

Australia has established Investment Deal Teams in Jakarta, Singapore, and Ho Chi Minh, with additional representatives throughout ASEAN. The teams collaborate with the government and business sectors in the region to identify and facilitate outbound investment opportunities for Australian investors.

Not only that, Australia also ranks as the 10th largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for Indonesia. There are many Australian companies in Indonesia that are seizing the opportunity—creating high-quality jobs and transferring technology while operating to high environmental standards.
