TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Agency (Bakom) Muhammad Qodari said on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, that he was optimistic the newly appointed Finance Minister, Suahasil Nazara, will be able to keep Indonesia’s economy growing while maintaining stability.
Qodari said Nazara’s key strength was his ability to balance economic growth and stability, backed by his strong academic credentials and government experience.
“We are very confident that Mr. Suahasil will be very successful in carrying out his duties as finance minister,” Qodari said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Qodari cited two strengths that he said would help Nazara maintain fiscal health. First, Nazara has a strong academic background as a professor of economics at the University of Indonesia.
Second, he has extensive experience at the Finance Ministry, having served as deputy finance minister and previously headed its Fiscal Policy Agency.
“He is very familiar with the ins and outs of the Finance Ministry because he served as deputy finance minister for around six to seven years, and before that he served as head of the Fiscal Policy Agency here (at the Finance Ministry),” Qodari said.
Qodari said Nazara’s experience would help him manage fiscal policy while supporting economic growth without compromising stability.
“That is one of Mr. Suahasil’s strengths, especially in a situation like this. Of course, the state budget is one of the important instruments to drive the economy while maintaining Indonesia’s economic stability,” he said.
Qodari also said Indonesia had significant economic potential that could continue to be developed.
He said the potential was in line with the direction of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, which emphasizes the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution concerning the management of natural resources for the prosperity of the people.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto appointed Suahasil Nazara as Minister of Finance, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, at a ceremony held at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
Suahasil is the third finance minister in President Prabowo Subianto's administration. His predecessor, Purbaya, was inaugurated on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani.
