TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Liverpool secured a 3-1 victory over Tottenham in the English League Cup third-round match at Anfield, Liverpool, on Tuesday night (local time).
Liverpool's win was sealed by goals from Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai, while Tottenham managed to pull one back through Conor Gallagher, according to EFL records as cited by Antara.
This victory sees Liverpool advance to the fourth round of this season's League Cup; the draw takes place on Wednesday (local time), with matches scheduled for late October.
Tottenham took the initiative early on and created a chance through Lucas Bergvall, but his shot went straight into the arms of Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool responded with a threat from Lewis Koumas, but his effort was thwarted by a save from Martin Dubravka.
The Reds took the lead through Alexis Mac Allister, who pounced on a rebound inside the Tottenham penalty area to make it 1-0 in the 21st minute.
Tottenham pushed for an equalizer for the remainder of the first half, but the 1-0 lead for Liverpool held firm until the break.
In the second half, Liverpool doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute when Cody Gakpo scored after receiving a pass from Alexis Mac Allister.
Tottenham reduced the deficit to 1-2 in the 69th minute as Conor Gallagher converted a corner kick delivered by Matheus Fernandes.
Liverpool had a chance to extend their lead further through Dominik Szoboszlai, but his shot was saved by Dubravka.
Towards the end of the match, Liverpool added another goal to seal a 3-1 victory, courtesy of a volley from Szoboszlai in the 90+1 minute.
