TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Recent concerns regarding alleged Pertamax fuel adulteration have prompted many consumers to explore fuel options beyond Pertamina gas stations. This raises the question: which other fuel providers are currently operating in Indonesia?
1. Shell
Shell runs its business activities in Indonesia's downstream sector, offering fuels and lubricants for industrial, automotive, and transportation purposes. Besides fuel, Shell gas stations provide engine oil and various quality services to maintain and improve engine performance.
The types of gasoline at Shell vary, such as Shell Super (RON 92), Shell V-Power (RON 95), and Shell V-Power Nitro+, which has the highest octane rating among their gasoline products. For diesel engines, Shell provides Shell V-Power Diesel.
2. BP-AKR
BP and AKR signed a joint business agreement on April 5, 2017, which became the precursor to the development of this fuel retail network. PT Aneka Petroindo Raya (APR) was established and operates under BP-AKR Fuels Retail.
BP-AKR offers three fuel types, namely BP Ultimate and BP 92 with ACTIVE Technology and BP Diesel for diesel vehicles. The ACTIVE Technology in BP Ultimate and BP 92 is designed to clean engines from accumulated dirt and prevent it from re-accumulating, thus helping to maintain optimal engine performance.
BP-AKR gas stations cater to a variety of consumer needs, offering facilities such as mini markets, coffee shops, fast food restaurants, water and air refilling stations, and a prayer room. In addition, there are facilities for battery exchange for two-wheeled electric vehicles at certain locations.
3. Vivo
PT Vivo Energy Indonesia, a downstream oil and gas company, operates this gas station network. PT Vivo Energy Indonesia is a subsidiary of the Vitol Group, a Swiss-based company. Vitol Group, established in Rotterdam in 1966, is the majority shareholder in Vivo Indonesia.
Besides operating in Indonesia, Vivo has branches in Singapore, the Netherlands, London, Africa, and Australia. Vivo offers three gasoline types: Revvo 90, Revvo 92 equivalent to Pertamax, and Revvo 95.
4. ExxonMobil
ExxonMobil's oil refining operations are based in Singapore, producing 592,000 barrels of fuel products per day. The gas stations established in Indonesia are a collaborative venture between the Salim Group through PT Indomobil Prima Energi and the United States company, ExxonMobil. They provide three products: automobile diesel, B20 automobile diesel, and RON 92 gasoline.
