Bitter Coffee for the Prosecutor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia member member Nuzran Joher knew former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah as an official who enjoyed hosting guests. During the fasting month earlier this year, Febrie invited Nuzran to de'CLAN Signature Café in Cipete, South Jakarta. "Judging from the invitation, it seemed to be his café," Nuzran told Tempo on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Nuzran said the fast-breaking event was attended by colleagues from the National Jambi Family Consultative Council. Both Nuzran and Febrie are featured in the book 65 Figures: Perspectives on Developing Jambi, published in early 2022. The book was launched to coincide with the 65th anniversary of Jambi Province.

It was the cafe that ultimately drew Febrie into the extortion case now being investigated by the National Police's Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Investigators searched the café on Wednesday, July 8. Inside a number of safes, ranging from small lockboxes to one nearly two meters tall, they found cash in various currencies totaling about Rp60 billion (around US$3.3 million).

The cafe had previously operated as a French restaurant called Gontran Cherrier. On May 19, 2024, Febrie's security detail detained a member of the National Police's Counterterrorism Special Detachment 88 (Densus 88) who had been following him at the restaurant. At the time, the restaurant was known to be owned by businessman Ferry Yanto Hongkiriwang.
