TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, or BMKG, forecasts rain in Jakarta today, Friday, February 21, 2025. Most of the region is expecting a drizzle, except for Seribu Island with thunderstorms.
BMKG also predicts light rain for the surrounding areas of Jakarta today. These areas include the regencies and cities of Bekasi, Bogor, and Depok. Meanwhile, South Tangerang City will be hit with moderate intensity rain.
The weather agency says the chance for rain occurs after midday and will last into the night, or in the case of Seribu Islands, the early hours of Saturday.
Jakarta is considered 'safe’ from the impact of heavy rain, with several atmospheric disturbances, such as tropical cyclone seeds, atmospheric waves, and cyclonic circulation, affecting the weather dynamics in Indonesia in the coming week.
One of the significant influences is Tropical Cyclone Seed 99S, located in the southern Indian Ocean near NTT. This tropical cyclone seed indirectly impacts the weather conditions by potentially increasing rainfall in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara in the next three days.
"Despite moving away from Indonesia with the potential to become a moderate to high tropical cyclone, in the next four days, this cyclone seed will still affect the south coast of Java," according to BMKG's statement in the weekly weather prospects for the current period of February 21-27, 2025.
