
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts the weather on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, will be covered with thick clouds in most parts of Indonesia.
BMKG meteorologist Nazmi, cited by Antara, said that for the Sumatra region, the cities of Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru (Riau), Padang (West Sumatra), Jambi, and Pangkal Pinang (Bangka Belitung Islands) are predicted to have heavy cloud cover.
"Light rain is predicted to fall in the city of Medan (North Sumatra), Bengkulu, Tanjung Pinang (Riau Islands), Palembang (South Sumatra), and Bandar Lampung," he said on Tuesday.
For the Java Island, the weather in the city of Semarang (Central Java) is predicted to be partly cloudy, while Yogyakarta will be cloudy. Meanwhile, heavy cloud cover has the potential to blanket the Jakarta, Serang (Banten), Bandung (West Java), and Surabaya (East Java) areas.
For the Kalimantan region, the weather in the city of Samarinda (East Kalimantan) is predicted to be covered in smoke or haze, while light rain has the potential to fall in the Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Tanjung Selor (North Kalimantan), and Palangka Raya (Central Kalimantan) areas.
"Beware of rain that may be accompanied by lightning in the city of Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan)," Nazmi warned.
For the Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, the weather in Denpasar (Bali) is predicted to be cloudy, Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara/NTT) will have heavy cloud cover, while Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara/NTB) will experience light rain.
For the Sulawesi region, Manado (North Sulawesi), Gorontalo, and Makassar (South Sulawesi) are predicted to have partly cloudy weather, while Palu (Central Sulawesi), and Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi) will experience heavy cloud cover. The city of Mamuju (West Sulawesi) is predicted to have moderate-intensity rain.
For the Maluku and North Maluku region, Ternate (North Maluku) is predicted to have heavy cloud cover, while Ambon (Maluku) will experience light rain.
Shifting to the Papua region, Manokwari (West Papua) and Jayawijaya (Papua Highlands) are predicted to have cloudy weather, while Nabire (Central Papua) will be affected by smoke or haze.
"The cities of Sorong (Southwest West Papua) and Merauke (South Papua) are predicted to have heavy cloud cover, while light rain is predicted to fall in the Jayapura (Papua) area," said Nazmi.
BMKG reminds the public to be alert for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain in the South Sulawesi region.
