Deputy Finance Minister: Investor Interest in Indonesian Bonds Remains High

8 hours ago 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Deputy Minister Juda Agung said that investor interest in Indonesian government bonds (SBN) remains high.

According to Juda, State Treasury Bonds (SUN) were oversubscribed by 2.4 times, while Sharia State Securities (SBSN) were oversubscribed by 2.8 times.

"In April, the domestic SBN market recorded a net inflow of Rp13.4 trillion," said Juda in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as quoted from Antara.

He also mentioned that Indonesia achieved several important milestones in the international market throughout 2026. For example, the issuance of global sukuk worth US$2 billion was oversubscribed by 1.97 times, as was the issuance of Samurai bonds worth 172 billion Japanese yen.

To expand the investor base, reduce dependence on the U.S. dollar, and support rupiah stability, the government is preparing to issue Panda and Kangaroo bonds.

The Deputy Minister stated that Indonesia is continuing to strengthen its bond market by focusing on liquidity, transparency, and good governance.

The 2026 financing strategy focuses on deepening the domestic market, diversifying funding sources, and prudent debt management.

"Our 2026 financing strategy has three principles. First, we prioritize domestic debt up to 70 percent in rupiah. Second, a careful currency mix of 25 to 30 percent in foreign currency. Third, active liability management," he explained.

Amid global economic turmoil, Juda emphasized the commitment to strengthening the financing strategy through cross-institutional coordination, disciplined fiscal management, and transparent state financing policies.

"We welcome scrutiny from S&P and other institutions. We also coordinate closely with Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) under the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK). So, monetary, prudential, and capital market policies are all in sync," said Juda.
