TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation (BKSAP) Mardani Ali Sera said the House of Representatives (DPR) is committed to supporting Palestine's independence. He mentioned that the parliament holds three stances regarding the conflict in the Middle East.
"Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we raise three things. The independence of Palestine, the framework of a two-state solution, and the reconstruction of Palestine," said Mardani after a discussion in the BKSAP room, DPR/MPR Building, Central Jakarta on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Meanwhile, the two-state solution is a resolution for the longstanding hostilities between Palestine and Israel by acknowledging the existence of each other's states. The discussion about the territory borders, the capital city, and the technical resolution can be determined through negotiations.
According to Mardani, Indonesia continues to support a lasting ceasefire and peace regarding the Israeli occupation in Palestine. He stated that the Palestinian independence movement aligns with UN Resolution 1967, in which Jerusalem is the southern part of the Palestinian capital.
"We also fully support Palestine's full membership in the UN," said this politician from the Prosperous Justice Party.
Furthermore, Mardani called on the Indonesian society to aid Palestine. On the other hand, he hoped that various factions in Palestine, such as Hamas and Fatah, could unite and start carrying out state functions.
As is known, at present, Palestine and Israel are in the stage of ceasefire negotiations. Hamas is optimistic that the discussions will lead to "tangible progress."
"Hamas began a new round of ceasefire negotiations today," said a senior official of Hamas, Abdel Rahman Shadid, in the digital platform of the Palestinian organization, as quoted by Anadolu.
He emphasized Hamas' commitment to engage "with full responsibility and positivity," including for discussions conducted with the special US envoy for hostage affairs, Adam Boehler.
Since October 2023, more than 48,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have died due to Israel's genocidal war in Gaza. The attacks ceased temporarily throughout the deal and prisoner exchange since January.
