TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia-based venture capital firm East Ventures is collaborating with the Temasek Foundation to launch the third edition of the Climate Impact Innovations Challenge (CIIC) 2025. The competition allows tech innovators worldwide to showcase their sustainable innovations in addressing ecological challenges and mitigating the impact of climate change.
“We are excited to once again present the Climate Impact Innovations Challenge 2025, reinforcing our commitment to driving meaningful change,” said Avina Sugiarto, a partner at East Ventures, as quoted from a release received by Tempo on Monday, March 10, 2025.
Avina said the competition serves as a platform to foster practical and impactful solutions to achieve a more sustainable future in Indonesia, as the global environmental and climate crisis intensifies.
Meanwhile, the head of Climate and Liveability at Singapore’s Temasek Foundation, Heng Li Lang, said CIIC has grown tremendously since its first edition in 2023, which reflects “a strong and growing global commitment to tackle sustainability” in Asia, especially in Indonesia.
In the past two editions, CIIC received over 800 global applicants from more than 50 countries. The 2024 edition, with over 500 applicants from 50 countries, awarded three winners: SunGreenH2 (Energy Transition), Hydrogen Refinery (Sustainable Agriculture), and AC Biode (Circular Economy).
This year’s competition focuses on three tracks, namely energy transition, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy. Given the prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI), CIIC 2025 also seeks solutions that leverage AI to address the three major focuses of the challenge.
As the largest of its kind in Indonesia, applicants to this year’s challenge will vie for a total prize pool of Rp10 billion. CIIC 2025 will run from March to September, for its Grand Finale. Last year’s Grand Finale took place on the sidelines of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum 2024.
