TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A post claiming that the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) and Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai urged Iran to withdraw its troops from the Strait of Hormuz is circulating on Threads [archive], Facebook, and LinkedIn.
The post features a photo of Pigai accompanied by text making the claim. The narrative reads: “KOMNAS HAM PIGAI Urges Iranian Officials to Withdraw All Military Forces from the Strait of Hormuz. It Belongs to America. It Does Not Belong to You.”
However, did Pigai or Komnas HAM actually issue such a statement?

FACT CHECK
Tempo verified the content using Google keyword searches, reverse image search features, and interviews with relevant parties. The results showed that neither Pigai nor Komnas HAM had ever issued such a statement.
Pigai currently serves as Minister of Human Rights in the Red and White Cabinet of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration for the 2024–2029 term.
“It’s a hoax,” Pigai told Tempo when asked about the social media narrative on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Meanwhile, according to its official website, Komnas HAM is an independent institution at the level of a state agency tasked with conducting studies, research, outreach, monitoring, and mediation regarding human rights. The agency is led by former migrant worker activist Anis Hidayah until 2027.
“There is no such statement,” Anis said when contacted via WhatsApp message on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
Image Verification

The image was taken by RRI photographer Aditya Prabowo when Pigai attended the main event marking the 76th World Human Rights Day at TMII in East Jakarta on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Meanwhile, the war resulting from the Israeli-US attack on Iran, which led to restrictions on access to the Strait of Hormuz, only began in late February 2026.
Image 2

Another image shows Pigai in the studio of the Indonesia Lawyers Club (ILC) talk show broadcast on March 8, 2024. At that time, Pigai was debating with other sources regarding the discourse on the right of inquiry into alleged fraud in the 2024 election. There was no discussion of Iran or the Strait of Hormuz during the show.
CONCLUSION
Tempo's verification concluded that the narrative claiming that Komnas HAM or Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai urged Iranian officials to withdraw their troops from the Strait of Hormuz is false.
